Abstract

본 연구는 간호대학생 2학년을 대상으로 치매파트너 봉사활동 경험을 탐색하고 이해하기 위하여 일개 간호대학생을 대상으로 포커스그룹 면담을 수행하고 내용분석방법을 통해 면담자료를 분석하였다. 그 결과 ‘치매전문가가 되어감’, ‘치매예방 홍보전도사가 됨’, ‘치매노인에 대한 편견이 사라짐’, ‘노인 간호의 기술과 동기를 획득함’ 의 4개의 주제가 도출되었다. 치매노인 인구가 급증하는 사회적 문제를 당면한 시점에서 이들의 간호에 책임 있는 역할을 수행할 전문 인력을 교육하고 양산하기 위한 효과적 방법을 개발하는 일은 간호학계의 중대한 과제이다. 간호전문인의 준비과정에 있는 간호대학생들이 치매노인 봉사활동 경험을 통해 노인대상자에 대한 인식과 태도, 행위가 긍정적으로 변화하였고, 미래의 노인분야의 전문가가 되기 위한 방향 전환의 기회를 가질 수 있었다. 따라서 치매파트너와 같은 봉사활동을 간호대학생들에게 확대할 필요성이 있으며, 이를 위한 대학의 자발적 참여와 교육 정책적 뒷받침이 지속적으로 이루어져야 할 필요가 있을 것이다. 또한 간호대학생의 치매노인에 대한 이해 증진 및 인식개선을 위하여 비교과 활동으로 지역사회의 치매안심센터 및 보건소 등과의 연계를 통한 봉사활동의 기회 마련하여 간호대학생의 치매노인의 봉사활동 경험을 통한 치매노인에 대한 인식개선을 위한 제도운영을 제언한다.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the experience of nursing students who volunteered as dementia partners for elderly persons with dementia.
Methods: This qualitative study utilized focus group interviews to investigate the experiences of 20 nursing students who performed dementia partner activities for more than one year. Data were analysed using an inductive content analysis approach based on Elo & Kyngas.
Results: The analysis yielded the following four major themes: “becoming a dementia expert,” “becoming an evangelist for prevention of dementia,” “overcoming prejudices against aged with dementia,” and “acquiring motivation and skills of geriatric nursing” That means the experience as a dementia partner serves as an opportunity to broaden human understanding and shows its potential as a means to complement the effectiveness of practical nursing education.
Conclusion: Dementia partner experiences have changed the perception, attitude and behavior of nursing students about the aged with dementia, so there is a need to extend this kind of experience to other students in nursing. Moreover, educational policy support should be continuously provided for this purpose.
